15 stycznia 2025 r.

Mister President, Excellencies,

Poland aligns itself with the statement delivered by the European Union.

I would also like to thank USG DiCarlo for her perceptive, albeit unsettling, observations.

Poland once again joins the international community in its ongoing condemnation of Russia's continued aggression against Ukraine. Russia's actions are not only unjustifiable but also a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, enshrined in international law and the UN Charter.

The UN and other international bodies have repeatedly concluded that actions taken by Russia in Ukraine fulfil the criteria of the legal definition of war crimes. Despite these findings, Russia continues its criminal activities.

The paralysis of the Security Council falls short of the expectations bestowed upon it by the international community. This is precisely why a large number of states came together in the UN General Assembly to pass a resolution firmly recognising Russia's actions as a war of aggression and have taken resolute steps to support Ukraine militarily, economically, and politically.

We appeal to all states to take decisive measures in solidarity with Ukraine. Particularly, energy support is crucial this winter for sustaining Ukraine’s resilience against aggression and ensuring its long-term stability.

Mister President,

Let us call a spade a spade: Russia is targeting its neighbours, employing a sinister toolkit of aggressive measures. This includes everything from acts like sabotage and espionage to outright violence, including assassinations. They manipulate information, spread lies, and launch cyberattacks. They violate our airspace, exploit vulnerable migrants, and try to strangle our economies. The situation in the Baltic Sea is of particular concern, where aggressive actions involving civilian vessels are taking place. We bring this issue to the attention of this Council due to the potential for further escalation. This is a concerted effort by Russia to undermine our security and achieve its own twisted geopolitical goals.

We urge all countries to refrain from providing any kind of assistance to the war of aggression against Ukraine. We strongly condemn Moscow’s irresponsible nuclear rhetoric and coercive nuclear sabre[1]rattling, including its announced stationing of nuclear weapons in Belarus. These actions demonstrate a posture of strategic intimidation and pose a serious threat to international peace and security.

In conclusion, Mr. President, we demand that Russia immediately cease its war of aggression against Ukraine and unconditionally withdraw all of its forces from Ukrainian territory. We wholeheartedly welcome and support Ukraine's unwavering commitment to achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, as outlined in President Zelensky's Peace Formula. Let us be clear: any acceptable future peace settlement must include ironclad guarantees for Ukraine and the region to prevent any recurrence of this brutal aggression. We categorically reject Russia's delusional belief that it stands above international law and can establish a sphere of subservient states – a concept that not only tramples on the very foundations of the UN Charter but also poses a grave threat to regional and global peace and security.

I thank you.
